7/2/2019 (Permalink)

It’s that time of year again! Many people are already setting off fireworks in preparation of 4th of July weekend. But are you taking the proper precautions when shooting them off? With fireworks starting an average of 18,500 fires a year, it is important to take cautions when using them this holiday weekend. See below for some of the top tips on how to prevent sparks from flying:

  1. Avoid fireworks that are packaged in brown paper: they are only like that for displays.
  2. Always have adult supervision, especially when allowing kids to play with sparklers!
  3. Back up as far as you can after lighting any fireworks.
  4. Never point or throw fireworks at people.
  5. Keep water on hand in case of accidents. Also douse used fireworks in water before throwing them away.
  6. Do not allow young children to play with or light fireworks.
  7. Do not shoot them off in metal or glass containers.
  8. Do not touch fireworks that have not fully ignited.
  9. Never stand above fireworks when lighting.
  10. Make sure it is legal to shoot off fireworks in your area before purchasing or using them.
